The Togoshi-Ginza neighborhood of Tokyo is a calm residential area boasting one major street flanked by stores and restaurants. It’s a peaceful place in spring. It’s also home to Jesse McFaddin, the lead singer of veteran rap rockers RIZE. Late last year, he released his first solo album, under his own name, called STAND UP! Recorded alongside an outfit called The Bonez, McFaddin originally posted demo versions of each song to the Internet, and challenged fans to top his versions, offering the person with best take a chance to record with him. We caught up with McFaddin in his stomping grounds, where we talked about his new album, growing up in Togoshi and, er, garbage.
